Hey I was looking through some of the MHX blanks and saw some which had a power rating of med-mag.... Im not familiar with this rating... Is this more or less than a medium heavy???
thanks Re: mHX question... med-mag

A mag-med is going to be somewhere between the medium & medium heavy power, unless I'm sorely mistaken. Too powerful to be a medium & not powerful enough to be a medium heavy. Re: mHX question... med-mag

Thanks for the ? Casey, I was also wondering Matthew, about them, HM-MB874 MHX, it says fast heavy, so is that, between heavy and med-heavy? which would be just right for what I fish in, not really that heavy cover but heavy enough where i will need a stiffer rod then the med-heavyHM- MB873, that I have now. I think it has to do more with butt strength rather than line rating. If you look at similar blanks with the same line rating the butt diameter on the Mag blanks is much greater. Re: mHX question... med-mag

Lorenzo, I think that one you are talking about it fast action and heavy power. What Casey asked about, for power it says med mag. Re: mHX question... med-mag

The MB874 is a fast action, heavy power blank as opposed to the MB 873 which is a fast action, medium heavy power. Meaning the 873 is slightly less powerful than the 874. I hope this helps. I was also wondering how the MB 874, would compare to the RainShadow RX8 XMB944.5 fast action heavy power rod, that I have now the only heavy power rod that i have, that is why I am looking for another heavy action rod, the Rainshadow is really a stiff rod, I guess I will have to wait and try out the MB874 to compare, unless anyone can give me any feedback on the two, thanks. It's kind of a slower hot shot blank design.I've seen Mag/Med used for years in describing a certain action in steelhead/salmon rods, It's the combination of a lighter tip similar to an 8 to 12 lb steelhead blank that quickly stiffens into a mid and butt section you'd expect on a med hvy blank. If you've ever fished a G Loomis IMX STR 1025 rod, the blank stiffens a bit more abruptly than that rod.
Gives a bit more flexibility in throwing eggs and shrimp in winter big steelhead in heavy current rivers, nice spoon blank, does a decent job pulling plugs, will work well also as a coho/spring chinook blank in float fishing from the bank and boat fishing the shallower waters they seem to perfer. Any deeper or heavier terminal weight requirements and the lighter tip section can be a problem. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 08/22/2011 11:39AM by Spencer Phipps.
