Chris
If you're thinking about starting with a raw culm (and have never done this) you are looking at a lot of work and specialized tools. For starters you can probably buy a "beater" for not a lot of money on that @#$%& site. If you want to start with a pre-made blank then contact Angler's Roost. Do yourself a favor and buy a "Presidential" model as the workmanship and finish will be better. Re: Where to find bamboo

Charles Demarest Company. They can supply the raw Tonkin Cane.
Harold and Eileen would both be over 95 now, I think. But I'm assuming they're both still kicking. ............ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/28/2011 05:07PM by Tom Kirkman. Re: Where to find bamboo

Chris -
Start reading. Fly Fishing in Maine has a good on-line tutorial ( [www.flyfishinginmaine.com] ). Thomas Penrose had a good site up on bamboo rod construction - but it is currently infected with a virus although his site on making your own planing form is still ok. Good starting point for reading / books: A Master's Guide to Building A Bamboo Fly Rod, by Everett Garrison with Hoagy B. Carmichael. Handcrafting Bamboo Fly Rods, by Wayne Cattanach. How to Make Bamboo Fly Rods, by George W. Barnes. Fundamentals of Building a Bamboo Fly-Rod, by George E. Maurer and Bernard P. Elser Constructing Cane Rods: Secrets of the Bamboo Fly Rod, by Ray Gould Splitting Cane: Conversations With Bamboo Rodmakers, by Ed Engle The Lovely Reed: An Enthusiast's Guide to Building Bamboo Fly Rods, by Jack Howell Cane Rods: Tips & Tapers, by Ray Gould Charles Demarest company is still around and importing cane ( [www.tonkincane.com] ) Russ Gooding / Goldenwitch has a good DVD / Video out (also sells raw graded culms) The Bamboo Broker (Andy Royer) is another source of cane ( [www.bamboobroker.com] ) Enjoy reading - you have several tools to purchase or make. Thanks so much , I was looking to buy some of the books you posted . so few people make the blanks , yes I will take some time to make the blank for a rod but bamboo is cheap you just have to buy a lot at a time. Thanks Re: Where to find bamboo

Starting rod building with bamboo today, seems alittle like a beginning driver starting at the Indy 500....IMO Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
