Anyone recommend a good clean knot to tie two spools of thread together? I am ¾ of the way through a tiger wrap in a surf rod and ran out of thread. Re: Knot question

Put your tie off loop in and tie off right there. Put your new spool on and start wrapping again. Wont that work? J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Knot question

If I were working with one thread that would not be a problem but when wrapping with three at one time I had rather do the knotting at the spool and keep going from there. Re: Knot question

I had that happen to me with a tiger wrap, wrapping 2 threads at a time, I just did what Jay said, it worked out really good, I though of a knot too. but then it was way to bulky, so i figured any knot I would use would be too bulky, so I just put it through a loop then ten cut it off like you would regulary, then start again after you put the coats of epoxy on it hardly shows, I couldn't tell unless I was on the magnifier. Have a good one. Re: Knot question

Just a though but what if you splice it together (with a plain square knot???) and finished the wrap. Then apply your finish and let it dry. Then trim off the knot like you would a nub and apply another coat of finish. Re: Knot question

I would imagine that ANY knot will be pretty visible on a wrap.

Unwrap it and then add the good spool and re-wrap Bill - willierods.com Re: Knot question

I would back off a few turns and insert a pull loop....keeping tension on the thread.....then re-wrap until you get back to the end of your old spool....then pull both the old end and the new end back under. That should give you a knotless splice ....assuming that this is for the underwrap on a Tiger. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
