The carbon is the covering over the rigid foam.
Not sure why you would want to cover the cover, but if you do, anything you can put over it will work. ............ Re: Covering Carbon Grips

Unless you go above about 10lb foam, you'll want some sort of coating that provides dent and chip resistance. Once the foam gets that dense, however, it becomes heavier than cork or EVA.
