Hi guys,
I was just wondering what you guys do when you have an open butt wrap that is primarily yellow in color? I am coming to the conclusion that yellow thread was created by some sick sadist as his idea of a joke.....it is practicaly impossible to finish properly. I have used Gudebrod, Madeira, and Sulky....they are all the same.....very disappointing. Farid Re: Yellow Butt Wrap

What's teh problem with it? I use light colors all the time, same results as any other colors. Re: Yellow Butt Wrap

I recently rebuilt a Daiwa Surf Rod on which I used a yellow underwrap under the guides and under an open buttwrap. Every five turns, I packed like a madman. I then applied three coats of CP and all was good. Re: Yellow Butt Wrap

Hi Guys,
Thanks alot for the info, but maybe I did not put my question across well.......the question here is for open butt wraps specifically . I agree with the painting of the rod below the wrap, but I would like to keep the open sections of the wrap the same as the blank color. Also during all my test, the edges of the wrap "bands" that have yellow thread did turn opaque and ugly....infact I didnt even get to the finish part, the CP had caused the yellow thread to go slightly transluscent. Regards, Farid Badri Re: Yellow Butt Wrap

You may need to "seal" the blank with Lumiseal or Permagloss before wrapping. I have had the blank color leach into light colored wraps after application of the finish on some re-builds. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
