Water based alternative to two part finish/PG

Hi all,

I havent seen anything posted recently about the water based product that was talked about earlier. I think it was another product from Ralph O'Quinn? If memory serves correctly, then I recall having read on this forum that is was due for launch this past June. Does anyone have any news on this?

I suspect I am starting to develop some symptoms of intolerance to the compounds associated to two part finishes, so I am pretty keen to try something else to see if I can improve the way I feel the day after finishing a rod.

Thanks,
Armand

The owner of Trondak decided to hold back the release of the product (Aqua Shield) for the time being. That's all I can tell you.

Tom,

Is there any idea of a proposed release date?

They had originally considered replacing PermaGloss with the Aqua Shield product, but ended up keeping PG in place. For how long I don't know. You could email Danny at Trondak and ask. He could give you a much better information than I can.

There are several water based clearcoats out there now. There are even automotive clearcoats but sorry, I don't have a name, but would be an easy search. Before I retired we were using waterbased paint on freight cars and the stuff was tough. Great gloss. Rustoleums' Varathane and Zinsser? brands have a waterbased spar varnish . Some are made for outside furniture and hardwood floors so I suppose that they're pretty tough as well as shiny. All claim non yellowing and low oder. Looks to be around $16 a quart. Don't know if this is what you're looking for or how it would work on rods...but I think I may try it. Comes in an aerosol too.
