Hi Craig,

I can't think of a good 9 foot livebait blank right off the top of my head but one thought would be to extend an 8 footer and go that route. Depending on whether you like a moderate action 'prefered by most king fisherman' or a faster action I would recommend the Batson RCLB80xl 'faster action' or the SWB80ML 'slower action'. Both cast live baits with ease. The RCLB is lighter being a graphite composite while the SWB has a softer action that many livebait anglers prefer in order to keep small treble hooks from pulling out of a fishes mouth during blistering runs and intense head shakes.

Craig,
I know what you refer to as King Fish in Australia is different from what we have here around our shores. My recommendation would be

for a 2pc model:
LSSU1082ML 9'0" 2pc. 12-20 lb. 3/8 - 2 oz Fast Butt OD 0.725" Top 6.5 Blank Wt. 4 3/8 oz.

for a 1pc model:

LGSB1081L 9' 1pc. 12-25 lb. 1/2 - 2 1/2 oz. Mod-Fast Butt OD 0.69" Top 6.5 Blank wt. 5 oz.

These are our private label models built for us by Lamiglas.

Craig,

I fish for kings off Sydney with livies regularly. I reckon you need some decent strength for kings to keep them away form the structure (and your outboard)

My recommendation would be a St Croix 4C80XHF 8' 1 20-50lb Fast Action for Mega Swim Bait - Butt Dia .64 and Tip Size 7. Extend it by a foot with some aluminium tube or, the butt of an old blank.

Be carful with your design though. At 9 feet, you may be giving the fish more leverage against you. My longest King rods are 7'6".

Cheers
Chris
