It's okay, he needed help - wanted to be assured he didn't make a major goof up (he didn't) and hopefully got the answers and assurance he needed. His rod will fish just fine.

I sure can't add much to this thread!!!! I have been building for a long time and have done a lot of reading on spine alignment. I try to learn and not just stick to all the old rules. I have come more and more to just put the sections of a rod together( I build mainly fly rods now) and look for the straightest alignment . Your guides and the pressure on the line through the guides created by the fish will more then determine and override the natural spine you find when flexing the blank and observing the pop and the position it wants to go to. I have yet to have a customer come back to me with spine alignment being an issue. Re: I messed up!

"...it is hard to find the spine on the blank but after flexing and rotating it several times, i was able to find it....
That sentence pretty much says it for me. And many builders do deliberately do it that way on some rods anyway. I do not know how important a spine that is so weak you can not find it is, but I am sure it is a whole lot less important than trashing a built rod to change it.
