Is it possible to enlarge the ID on Aluminum winding checks and keep them still pretty. If so, how is accomplished. Re: Winding Checks

rick,
You can use a dremel tool with an abrasive wheel that is nearly the same size at the winding check. The larger the diameter wheel that you can use, the better the finished results will be. If you had a lathe, with a good chuck, you could also chuck the check into the lathe and use a file to enlarge the check. It is a delicate job, but if you take your time with good tools you can have excellent results. REW Re: Winding Checks

Rick,
I have used a rat tail file to ream them out, by hand. 4 strokes-rotate 45 degrees-4 more strokes-rotate 45 degrees, 4 more strokes, etc, etc...take your time, and try to apply slight and even pressure on each stroke. They come out fine, especially if you are adding a deco wrap or a wrap for a hookkeeper. Once you put the finish on, you'll never notice any minor imperfections.
