my dad bought a bamboo offshore rod for $20, at a flea market it looks in good condition but needs refinishing.......that is all i got, i dont even know where to start. Re: any answer is better than mine...........

Start by removing the wraps and guides, then carefully scraping off the old finish. Don't sand it. Mild paint removers (citrus types) are fine provided you leave them on no longer than necessary to remove the old finish.

Wes, is he looking to fish this rod or just wants you to refinish it for display purposes?
If it's just for display you can do what Tom said then coat it with Helmsman Spar Urethane and retie the guides and threadw ork, finish with epoxy or the same urethane. Re: any answer is better than mine...........
