Yellow...Very difficult colour to work with

Hi Guys,

Im hoping if you could help me out.......

Im currently working on a popping rod. Its a two piece, and for the butt/fore grip I have inlaid yellow EVA rings (the rings have been cut from the Mudhole CM12, it is a round EVA grip) which have beed sandwiched between normal black EVA. For the rest of the rod, I have been looking for some thread that is similar in color and shade, and upto now I have been unsuccessful. The threads that I have tried are the following: Pac Bay (Yellow, Light Orange), Prowrap (101, 110, 119), Madeira Polyneon (1883), Madiera Rayon (1068), Gudebrod (Lemon Yellow). All of the stated colors have been way off ie the shades have been either very light or too dark. All mentioned threads have been tested with CP and without.

Would any one out there be able to recommend other yellow thread I can try? Or if I am stuck with regards to color, what other can I consider for the butt wrap? for the butt wrap im considering a scale design.

Any help provided would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Farid Badri

Farid, something else you might try is to wrap the blank first with silver metallic thread and then wrap over that with the yellow. The metallic thread will keep the thread bright when you apply the finish. Maybe some experimentation will give you the shade of yellow you are looking for.

Anytime I'm working with either yellow or orange thread, I undercoat with write Testor's paint first. It make a HUGE difference in the final outcome of the color. So much brighter and more even. I'll never go back.

After messing around with yellow the first time last night I have to say anyone who is thinking about using yellow should read this thread! I know for a fact I will make plenty of changes the next time, thanks for all the tips. In the mean time it's my rod, and I still think it will do the job I need it to.
