Anyone built on this blank. Want to throw 4, 5, 6 oz weights on this rod. It is rated 2-6 but want to know if the 6oz would be overloading it or close to overloading it.
Would be used for chunking with small mullet chunks on 12-14 test with 30-40 shock leader. Thoughts. Dan grulke Re: 4SRS106MHMF2 surf blank

I’m not a fan of St Croix surf blanks but if was in your shoes and wanted a St. Croix blank, I would go with the 2SRS106H2. My preference in that weigh class is a 11’-6†blank but it’s just about the only blank I see that would throw the weigh. Re: 4SRS106MHMF2 surf blank

Remember to calculate the weight of the sinker, plus the bait, when figuring how much you're actually going to be tossing (you may already have done that - I don't know).

I am a fan of American Tackle AXSU110H-2. I have build a few rods with this blank and so far with zero problems.

The problem you're going to run into is that each angler casts differently. Recommending a blank to someone w/o knowing their skill level or watching them cast a couple of times is tough. A “light†caster might think that blank X casts 5 oz just fine while a heavy handed caster might snap the blank throwing the same weight.
Barry brings up the perfect example. The Baton 1418 is a great blank. I know guys who throw 6 oz all day long with one. Then there are the guys like myself that don’t trust them at that weight. If I’m throwing 6oz the Lamiglas 1502 is coming off the truck. Re: 4SRS106MHMF2 surf blank

I live on Hatteras Island I would recommend 2 men to speak to, Joe Moore he lives in Avon. Sells blanks as well as finished gear mostly Breakaway a fine product .In his time he was an excellent tournament caster ans a good fisherman. Other authority would be Ryan White sells high end rods and blanks excellent quality.Ryan owns Hatteras Jacks a bait and tackle store on the island. Still competitive in casting tournaments. You can trust either of them. For surf casting rods Im not a fan of ST. Croix. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
