Mudhole - class act

I recently placed an order with mudhole for the parts needed for my jigging rod build based on the blank I posted about previously ( Lami WBT724 -E). An item (1 oz. spool of silver metallic) was backordered for a few weeks. I sent an inquiry to see if there was any news and The result is that Scott will supply 100yd spools to amount to the yardage of the 1 oz. spool.

Some companies still understand the meaning of customer service.

Great job Mudhole.

Seems it would be better if they showed that they are out of stock so we could make the choice of waiting for it. jmo

Steve, that would result in a large amount of time used...considering they have over 300 orders a day. and what if someone in an order ahead of you ordered a bunch of the things you had in your order... you wouldn't know that it would be out of stock... and either would they. just my 2 cents.

There should be a computer program out there somewhere that once a part is swiped with code scanner it comes off stock. Also helps with re-ordering.

As with all things there is a short answer and a long answer.

The short answer is that the software exists. It can be configured with reorder points, suppliers and all sorts of historical information.

The answer starts getting longer when we start talking about the internet, hosted applications and frequency of update. Do we "reserve" product that is being placed in a shopping cart? How many shopping carts are abandoned? How many sales are lost due to "reserved" product not being sold.

Now throw in multiple sales channels....phone, fax, email, online. You can start to see the issue.

Now add the business model, supplier shipping times and just in time manufacturing. It is a large kettle of fish that is still settling after the last economic down turn.

Too true. Mudhole sends out a load of catalogs, so mail order will be a factor.

In truth what time does it take a computer to know when a product is sold. Everything is ran by cpu's so it's a matter of a half a second or so. It wouldn't stop it completely but it make a huge difference.

Just an update on the previous post I made. I just received shipping confirmation for a 950yrd spool of my backordered item at the 100yard price. I had ordered the 100 yard spool.

You always have human error. People miscount, people pull things from the wrong bin or put them in the wrong bin, etc. Heck, when I do inventory it amazes me how many times I am off, and I am the only one in the shop. Several times when I have called in (to a different supplier) they say that the computer shows this or that, but "let me go check and see what I really have".

I agree, it stinks to have a B/O. I have put a comment in the comment section detailing what I can live with as far as back orders.

It's not a perfect world.....yet! ;)

Chuck
