I am just been thinking about using a 2000 wet or dry sand paper, and using car liquid car polish to polish a rod, do any of you know or think that this might be just a little to rough for the rod, I have a rod that i wanting to polish, I have it sanded down to the graphite. Thank you.

You can buff it with a very, very mild compound and that's about all you can expect. Sanding a rod blank is never a good idea, although I doubt 2000 grit is really going to hurt anything.

Try a quick wipe with "Liquid Gold" and be done with it.
