I have noticed that most bent butt trolling rods have the roller stripper guide anywhere from 28" to 32" from the center of the reel seat, I know that this guide should be placed far enough from the reel to not cause line wear, while this is a concern I am more concerned about the possibility of the line coming down on someones hand when the rod is under a heavy load when the guide is so far forward, I have heard that this has happened before and can cause a serious injury. I would like to hear from others on the spacing of this guide Re: Offshore Rod Roller Stipper Guides

It depends on the action of the rod. If it is a fast tip action and strong backbone in the middle and lower portion of the rod, then 6-8" in front of the grip is fine. If it is more of a parabolic bend blank, then you might want to go closer to the grip.
The only to figure that out is to place the guides where you think they should go and to flex the rod and see where the guides should be. KK Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
