Matt, I know exactly what you mean not even my kayaking buddies take as good care of their fishing gear I as do. I always have the fishing rod I am using in my hand or sitting on my lap never laying around on the kayak and the rest are tied and laying on the rod holders on a Shimano Bristol Bay portable live-well bag that I mainly use a cooler. I even grap a small piece of tape around the hook keeper so the hooks can't scratch the blank. The rods are washed as soon as I get back home and sprayed throughout with Corrosion X for added protection. I guess you can't expect less when fishing the flats with rods that retail for $300-$400.

Pedro,
There is a preview of the Lamiglas EXC 722 at Tackle Tour that might help a bit. The blank used is the 2 inch longer version of your 844.
I have a couple o the LP 904s I really enjoy.
