First EVA grip assembly

I am building a crankbait rod and was ready to do my first installation of an EVA rear grip.
I read the article on installing them in my Rodmaker magazine and was set to go.
I reamed it a bit such that when I dropped it on the blank it stopped about 14" away from the butt end.
Applied Rod Bond and started to slide it down, I got to about 4" from the end and it would not go any
further no matter how hard I pushed.
Well I quickly removed it and cleaned the blank with alcohol.
I reamed it out some more so it was about 7" away from the end and reassembled it successfully.
Is there a rule of thumb on how far these can slide?
I estimate it only stretched about 15-20% based on blank diameter calculations.

it most of the time stretches a lot more then that. what you should do is just puke the epoxy on the blank. when you get the grip drop it down on the blank. when it stops get an idea of where to apply the epoxy. you should apply most of it about 2 inches above the top of the grip. then kind of twist it and turn it and get it full of epoxy on the inside. make sure that you put a lot of epoxy above the grip and on where the inside of the grip will be and youll bee fine. then clean with Denatured alcohol.

i just ream mine for a snug fit and dry-fit them first. i don't like fighting with them to get them into place. i do most all mine as split grips though.

Before I slide the grip on I heat the EVA with a heat gun then slide with a twist down the blank......I think the heat lets the EVA expand a little more and easier
