So I finished a slow action, freshwater, Seeker E-glass rod, for a friend.
As he was inspecting and wiggling it around, we began to hear a tick from 2 guides. It almost looks/sounds as if the flexcoat did not bond to the blank. I find it super annoying and I feel it reflects on my craftsmanship. What did I do wrong? How can I prevent or fix it? Re: "Ticking" Guide

I have had this same problem before. Try increasing the wrap tension on the guide Re: "Ticking" Guide

While at Lamiglas we had this problem some years back and tried many different things to resolve it. The problem was primarily on #50 & #40 guides occasionally a 30 but what we ended up doing was to go to a low viscosity finish. That resolved that issue. We just weren't getting enough finish into the threads with a high build.

Hi,
Common problem. Have you ever noticed the clicking when you are adjusting the guides to lay flat on the blank? I have, just bending the feet will make some guides click. I no longer pay attention to it. A set of fiberglass rods did a long of clicking when first used and then disappeared after being in use. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: "Ticking" Guide

DEvin, spray a shot of WD 40 on all the guides where the epoxy touches them on the legs and see what happens. Re: "Ticking" Guide

Thank you for all your help!
I played around with it a bit and added some more flex, especially at the bottom of the guide frames at the blank. No more squeaks or ticks! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
