Anyone have a suggestion as to how much glitter to add to thread finishing epoxy -- proportions or whatever? Or does everyone just add a "pinch"? Thanks.

I can't say a specific amount, but a very little amount of the fine glitter goes a very long way.

Hello Bil.

It depends on how fine and how much epoxy, but either way it is'nt much.
With the ultra fine and 2cc's I use 1/2 pinch.
Make a double batch and try it yourself.

Good Luck.

Bob,

I used a whole pinch once and it was too much. Less than a pinch should be fine.

A dash would be about right.

Thank you everyone for your help. I asked my wife if she had a "dash" or a "pinch" measurer for when she cooks -- which isn't very often -- and I struck out on both counts. So it's back to the by-guess-and-by-gosh way of doing things, I suppose.

I can't say how much there is in a dash or a pinch, but a little goes a loooong way. If you add too much it can actually create a sagging problem with the epoxy and can leave a rough texture to the feel of the finish.

I usaually apply my finish with a knitting needle and just touch the needle to the mixed finish in the cup and then dab it into the glitter to grap a small amount that I then add to the mixing cup, mix just a little and add to the rod. Do a test or two on a scrap until you get the effect you want.

I use a round wooden toothpick, just dip into the flake half an inch or less, drop what you gather into the mixed finish, stir with your choice of another tool and see if that is what you want.
Err on the "too little" side at first, until you get an idea of how you want it.
If you want more flake, just repeat, do not get the toothpick into the finish or you will contaminate the flake if you decide you want more.
We like it with just some high lights, not heavy amounts of flake in the finish.
As has been said, too much is not good.

Best wishes,
