What tool should I use to cut a pre-formed grip, to shorten its length. Thanks.

Rich,
You have a lot of options: 1. If you have a lathe, you can get an excellent cut on a lathe. Put the grip on a mandrel, spin it up , and then just use dental floss to cut an EVA grip cleanly. If it is cork, you can use a hacksaw, or jig saw, or even a serrated knife to get a nice clean cut on the spinning grip. 2. If you happen to have a chop saw, you can put an abrasive wheel on the chop saw and get a velvet smooth square cut. 3. If you have a dremel tool, you can cut the grip, but on a small wheel, it is tough to get the cut square. 4. You can use a fine bladed hacksaw, or jig saw by hand, but it would work best if you could put the grip into a miter box, so that you would get a square clean cut. 5. You could use a manual miter box, with a very very very fine toothed miter saw, or you could even use a razor sharp kitchen knife in place of the miter saw to get a clean and square cut. If you are the outdoors type - I suppose that you could put it out in the woods by a beaver pond and instruct the beaver to chew it off, but I doubt that it would be very square - (not funny is it, this early in the morning). ------------------- Since I have several chop saws with abrasive wheels on them, that saw is my choice of saws when cutting grips. If you happen to have a small craft style jig saw - with a good guide to keep the handle straight when cutting, the jig saw will do a fine job of cutting the grip. If you happen to have a band saw with a fine toothed blade, it will do an excellent job of cutting a grip. So - lots of options and all will work fine if you take your time. If you use any type saw, a straight cut is assured by the use of a jig or guide to keep the handle straight when cutting. Take care Roger Re: Cutting a pre-formed grip

Spinning will give you a clean and straight cut. No lath just put the cork on a scrap blank put it in a drill support the other end and get it spinning and cut with any FINE TOOTH saw blade. Then sand to fit Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/20/2011 05:38PM by bill boettcher. Re: Cutting a pre-formed grip
