looking for blank suggestion for a 30 lb. class dolphin rod.

i like the seeker mlb blanks. i think it stands for marlin live bait. its what i've been using for sailfishing in isla mujeres and im sure it would be good for dolphin as well.

What type of rod? Fly, Spin, casting, etc.

I have just purchased the new St Croix SCII NSi Offshore blanks. they are small diameter (16mm butt) and rated 45-65lb for braid. Feels reel good in hand. Looking to build as a spinning rod also. Dollies are something we chase also in OZ. According to St Croix the new NSi is pretty flash. Haven't fished the rod yet so cant report on performance.

For deep salt water (and large Pelagics), I also use Graphite USA blanks. Cant fault them, strong and have both fast and mod fast actions depending upong what you like.

I like the Seeker GTS70L for Mahi Mahi.
It's 7'2" 15-30#, Lure Wt: 3-10oz., Tip: 7.5, Butt: .645, and weigh about 5.5oz.

You really should consider the new Phenix Blanks. They are awesome and their action and backbone are outstanding. Oh yeah, the fit and finish is top knotch!!

A little more details would help. When I think "30# class" I tend to think conventional reel and trolling. Perhaps you are building a spinning outfit to be used with 30# braid on a fairly small reel and will sight cast to dolpin. That is a very different outfit.

So what will the reel be? Will you troll? Will you cast live bait to sighted fish? What is the smallest, biggest, and average sized fish you intend to target?

FWIW I just picked up a St. Croix 3SW70HF that I intend to pair with a Bradia 4000 loaded with PE3 braid for much the same type of fishing. Sadly 30# dolphin are becoming rare down here.

I have a few seeker Hercules inshore lights. The gts 70l is the awesomest blank I know of. I have heard only good things for fishing for mahi with this blank. Gots some MMMAAAJJJOOORRRR balls to pull in the trophy too. I would have to recommend it. Check with Billy Vivona if you want one too. He designed it and gets them in stock very often.
