Waaaaaaaaaaaay off topic but fishing related. In one of John Gierach's books he talks about a type of art where a fish is covered in ink or paint and then rolled, similar like a fingerprint, onto rice paper. the imprint of the fish on the rice paper is then framed and hung as art.
The other night while waiting for some color preserver to dry I watched a new TV show about taxidermists in Alaska. They did the same thing with a salmon and rice paper. But I didn't turn it on in time to hear what this method is called so I could learn more about it and try it myself. Any help out there? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone at all? thanks Buzz Re: fish imprint on rice paper... help.....

This was just on "mounted in Alaska" the other day. Looked pretty cool. Think it on History channel. Re: fish imprint on rice paper... help.....

They also do imprints up here in Alaska using textile paints and muslin cloth. Re: fish imprint on rice paper... help.....

You can do a pretty cool tshirt by painting the fish, latex or what ever paint you have. put the tshirt over an old pillow & press the fish into the shirt, remove the fish carefully. Some come out amazing & some not so amazing. the second pressing most of the time is better than the 1st. The first one I ever did was for a customer back when I was guideing. He wanted his 9 lb bass mounted & left it with me, after a while I called him & he could not afford the mount, so I tried this & sent him a coupla shirts. he sent me more customers to guide & they all wanted their fish shirt. Almost went hog into the shirts.

I have done this many times! Its really cool. The hard part has been finding the rice paper. I iron it under a towel afterwards. I have done a snook then drea in the lateral line. Also a small tarpon then added the irradescent eye. Never got one that wasn't a little smudged so never framed but I will get a good one some day. You need watersouable ink.
