I'm looking to build a halibut rod for a friend in Alaska and am looking for blank options.
I'm looking for a blank in the 4'8" to 5'6" range. He generally runs 80# braided line on his halibut sticks. He does a combination of jigging and bait fishing. I could also use suggestions on what type of guides to use as this will be my first saltwater build. Another question I have is on handles, material and lengths? How long a rear grip and how long for front grip? Would a Batson RCKJB508-500 be a good choice? Thanks for your help!! :) Regards Dave Fishing is Life the rest is just Details Edited 2 time(s). Dave,
Give Batson a call. They have excellent suggestions - both respect to the blank as well as the rest of the components. Roger Re: Looking for halibut blank suggestions

Look at the Rainshadow FSU56XH or FSU56XXH. I would use silicon nitride or silicone carbide turbo guides. Does he use a lighter leader, or straight 80? Re: Looking for halibut blank suggestions

Thanks for the info.
Waiting to hear back on leader, but mot likely it will be heavier than 80#. Regards Dave Fishing is Life the rest is just Details Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
