Weird!

Had a very weird experience this afternoon. I finished a new rod a few days ago and figured I’d go out for a while and try it out. My hands got so cold, I dropped the rod (and Aldebaran reel) in the water. Never happened to me before. Anyway, I couldn’t believe my eyes…. It was just barely sinking….like it was suspending. I was able to grab it while it was about 6” below the surface. Never figured light weight would be a factor for that type situation (Ha).

So lucky!!

I had a similar experience with cold hands while floating a river. We were going through a swift area when my crank bait hung up and literally (braided line = no stretch) ripped the rod out of my hand. It was shallow enough to get my rig back, thank goodness.

Kicked my Castaway BB1 with Revo Premier in Saturday and believe or not it floated. I guess it pays to build light and buy light reels.

A friend of mine lost a rod that I built for him last week. He left it on the rear deck and when he was just coming on plane hit a wake. He said that he thought about the rod and looked back just in time to see it go over the transom. He said he could have cried for losing that rod but what really got to him was watching the brand new $250. reel going over with the rod. I would have gone in after it if it had been mine!

I lost a Plano tackle box last summer. I left it on the front deck of the boat and didn't latch the lid and at 65 MPH the lid opened up and tossed the box and around 15 lbs of jigs over. I don't evene want to know the value of what I lost.

I built a 7' M/F SCV casting rod for a guy last spring and he matched it up with a Steez. He was fishing with me on Erie and said "watch this"...and he tossed it over the side of the boat. It floated, horizontal, right beside the boat. I also built myself a 6'9" ML/XF SCV spinning. Just for the halibut, I tossed it in my friends pool, and it floated. However, I didn't have the heart to do it with my CI-4 attached.
