Guys,
Can you give me a bit of advise on this? How do you insure a straight cut on your snake skins? I use an Angle Square Ruler and a razor blade to make straight cuts on the north and south ends of the snake skin but because the snake skin itself, might not be layed out perfectly straight it might not be a straight 90 degree cut. In other words, I get a very straight cut but it might not be a pefectly angled cut. I hope this makes sense. Thanks very much for any help that you might be able to give me on this. Go buy yourself a cutting mat and rolling blade. They have grids on them, makes life a lot easier. Craft stores have them ... along with LOTS of really wicked rod building ideas. Re: Straight cut on snake skin

I just finished my first snake skin butt wrap and it came out great.
I have a cutting mat from a hobby shop that has a grid pattern printed on it and it worked fine for laying out the skin & then cutting it with a fresh single edge razor blade. The grid pattern works for laying out the scales straight, but does the N/S cut really have to be that precise since you are doing thread over those ends anyway? The mat I use is a Revell #88-6990 Modeler's Cutting Mat 12" x 9" and it has inches, mm, and a protractor grid printed on it. I'm sure you can get it at any hobby shop. You can see it at revell.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/27/2011 10:09AM by Jon Gold. Re: Straight cut on snake skin

Sometimes using a good pair of scissors will make the cuts cleaner and straighter.
A razor will try to "pull" the skin as you try to cut it. mikeb Home Town,Gretna VA Re: Straight cut on snake skin

That is what I used, a rotary cutter is perfect for snake skin no pulling or stretching. With a clear straight edge with grid lines you can get your scales lined up just like you want.
