I routetinily static test as well as test cast rods prior to wrapping and finishing. Yesterday I was test casting 3 surf rods I'm currently building. 2 10' lami's and a SU batson, at the beach since it's close
So I'm switching between casting reels with different line sizes, braid to mono. trying to dial in the rod, throwing different plugs. Meanwhile there is 3 inches of snow on the beach. Like any beach aprking lot there is a few older gents reading their newspaper enjoying the morning So after 30-40 minutes of me dialing these rods, Finally one of them gets out of his car and says " Son the bass won't be here for another month, trying differnet rods and lures won't help" . I laughed my ** off. I told the guy what I was doing and we both laughed and talked for a couple of hours. He was a retired charter boat captain, cape cod what are the chances! I figured only rod builders would apprieate the irony . Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

Small world Matt,
Try testing rods in the front yard/street/park by "cat casting" with a hookless bass mouse. That will get some looks & comments I assure you! LOL Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

I was out practicing some casting when I had a very similar moment. I was in the middle of my casting session when this guy came by walking his dog, and he stopped and said, "I remember when I was younger...we used to come out to this field and do the same thing!"
Later on during that same afternoon the county security guy comes by and tells me, "You're a little too far from the beach to be using those ulua rods!" We both got a good laugh out of it since the beach is right down the street, and he knew he was just giving me a little bit of a hard time. He told me he's seen other using the field for the same thing (casting practice), and just told me to be careful. I'm building a couple more ulua rods right now, so I may be making a trip down to that field again soon to dial in those rods...maybe I'll have a similar experience! Hi,
A good one. I test cast at a local football field. Sometimes some one will yell,"How's the fishing". I like the mouse thing. Wow! What if a hawk comes screaming down and takes off with the mouse? Capt Neil Faulkner Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

I have one I was test casting in my back yard. I live on the water in Florida. Well to test cast I grabbed the first lure I could find. yozuri pencil. I had the guides taped on. Was realing and BAM a small tarpon grabbed the lure. It was cool althogh I lost it after a jump or two. Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

Capt Neil, could be the best fight you ever had, especially on light tackle, LOL. Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

...reminds of the time I was fishing off the government pier in Milwaukee, when a seagull snatched my rigged alewife, in mid-air. The seagull got tangled up in the monofilament and I had to "land" him to set him free. A small crowd gathered to watch the airborne "fight". Them seagulls can also put up a helluva fight, but you ought to see what a pelican can do, I speak from personal experience Ron Weber Re: Have you had this Funny awkward moment

You should try a seagull using 1kg line. After 45min got everything back and released the bird, tired but undamaged.

Both. As for a pelican on anything less than 50lb I think I'll pass.
