Dating your rods

As I've said I'm a "hobby builder", building for family, friends, co-workers and of course myself.
As this is a very addicting hobby I've come to have a large collection of rods "for myself".

The question I have is this - do you guys put the date buiilt on all your rods??

The dilema I have is, will people be reluctant to buy them with these old dates.
Most of them are 2005 and newer and in excellent condition.
Obviously I would identify and price them as used rods.

If it is for you - up to you if you think it will help in any way - finding another blank just like it
For a customer ask them

No, I don't put any dates on the rods. Basic information (line, lure, etc.)

I put my information in invisable ink..my name, date and rod number.
And whatever info the customer wants to add. it can be seem by black lite.
It was in one of Toms magazines,But I dont know which one.
Then if the customer wants the line and weigh I will add that, most dont want it on
the rod..You have a clean rod with no writing, just decorations.(whatever kind)

Mike,
What brand of invisible ink do you use and where do you get it?

Put a serial number on each rod you build. Record the serial number in a book or journal and list the date there.

I tried...my wife got jeleous....

Oh wait...you meant when I built it? Oh...I tried..I usually forget to do it though. A serial number with the date encoded would be nice.

I always date an number all of my rods. I use a serial number as follows month, year, rod number, i.e. 031175, March 2011, number 75. I try to keep it as simple as possible. Hope this helps.

I tried dating mine, but they don't seem to like much in the way of a dinner or movie. Actually, since mine do not speak or do anything else for that matter, I found that they make for a pretty lame date...LOL.

I know someone else already went there, but I couldn't resist.

Why

If you are going to put the line lure weight and such - why do it in ink your customer can not see - Makes no sense to me But then

"People will be reluctant to buy them." So if he wanted to know the date, he just flashes the light on it. And if they wanted line class, he could always just paint It on. No big deal. Plus it's very neat and cool.

Bill it's the date that's the important use for the invisible ink. If you have a rod that has never been fished (call it new) but it's a couple of years old, customers may not want to buy it due to the date. Lure weight and blank info is different altogether. Can you "see" the point.
