Rod varnish

I'm finishing up the wrap finishing on my 1st rod. I've heard a little about rod varnish - is that something typically done? On one hand, coating the entire blank will cover a few small cosmetic blunders I've made, but the idea of covering the blank with something that might look uneven or have bubbles scares me to death. What's the consensus?

Rod varnish is usually used on Bamboo, not graphite. If you want to do the entire rod, and it is graphite (actually carbon fiber) Perma Gloss is a good choice. If you are not familiar with the use of it, be sure to use this sites search capability to learn the process. Done right it does a very nice job without bubbles or such.
All that said, coating the entire rod is usually done BEFORE wrapping on the guides! Re: Rod varnish

Phil,
It is indeed graphite (Batson RX7, matte gray). Sounds like leaving it alone would be the best plan. Thanks! Steve Re: Rod varnish

I have been using Perma Gloss to coat my Graphite rods and they come out great. Like Phil said about varnish I only used that varnish to redo bamboo rods. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
