i have had my mixer for a little over a year now and was just wondering, those that have one, does your mixing rod stay in one place and spin or does it move all around the cup? I think it is supposed to stay in one spot so I hold the back of my brush against the top of it lightly so that it spins in one place. My mixes come out good but it seems like I should be able to turn it on and not have to watch it.

If it's too cold in the shop mine sticks and spins. I have to warm the metal cylinder a bit if I'm using hi-build. You can also increase teh angle of the mixer by placing something under the back. If I heat the shop about 70F all is well.

I got a mixer and metal mixer moves a bit but still rotates I found if you don't clean metal mixer sticks and just go around and it take just a little bit

Mine moves a little at the start, then after a minute or so stays pretty stationary, but room is 70 to 78 degrees and bottles are warmed up a little before mixing.

Mine does not have the rod, it uses the stainless steel marbles. The only time it gives me problems is when I forget to remove them from the epoxy cup. That stuff relly sets up hard.

I use Stainless Ball Bearings 1/2"-3/4"

I don't have a mixer but instead just open the jaws of one of my drying motors. The 3 oz. plastic cups I use fit perfectly into the jaws. I just tilt the motor back against the wall and it makes a great epoxy mixer.

I always warm the resin and hardener before adding them to the cup along with a 1/2" ball bearing. Once it starts turning I hold a hair dryer to the bottom outside of the cup for about 30 seconds. It warms everything just enough so there are no problems with the ball bearing sticking. After 2 minutes I gently blow through a straw against the inside edge of the cup to force any epoxy that's riding above the ball bearing back down into the mix.

I have had the mixer for over a year and it is a great tool. I quickly abandoned the use of the metal mixing rod and just use a large, flat mixing stick. So, while not a hands off process, the mixer rotates the epoxy and I just hold the mixing stick to the side of the plastic mixing cup for about 3-4 minutes or until the epoxy runs clear. The mixing stick ensures that the epoxy folds over itself. I get a perfect mix every time with little effort other than holding the mixing stick in the cup.

I do what Chad does, it works really well. My fast dryer is 18 rpm. I use it leaned back at an angle to mix epoxy with a ball bearing. A friend of mine (Roy) who is a member here showed me how to make a wooden holder that allows the dryer to sit at an angle. If you read this, thanks Roy.

I like your idea the best.
I like the convenience of being able to simply wipe down the mixing stick - ready for a new batch.
Simple with little hassle. Never any worrys about the balls not turning, or the rods not rolling. Also, you don't have to dig into the mix to get the balls or the rollers out of the mix to wipe down for the next batch.
