I am putting together two, 2 weight graphite fly rods in which I turned my own cork handles. I plan to use a black, rubber winding check on one and I would like to try to do a fine point finish on the other that is similar to the way Orvis finishes their light weight rods. What is the proper way to create this tapered transition from the tip of the cork handle to the rod blank. Is it achieved through building up 3 or more coats of heavier epoxy? Should I put on a rubber winding check or wrap some trim thread just ahead of the cork and build up the transition area with epoxy from there? Thanks for you input. You can build a ramp to the cork with tread. rubber winding checks are just grommets or seal rubber rings some builders use jewelry or wire thread. Antler Bone has even been used. This is up to you and your imagination Good Wraps Bob Re: FINISHING a fine point cork handle on a 2 weight fly rod

You can create the taper using Rod Bond. It is better then liquid epoxy that will want to run. I shape the Rd Bond as it begins to set with a finger wet with alcohol. Then over wrap with your choice of thread color, then cover with your finish epoxy. Re: FINISHING a fine point cork handle on a 2 weight fly rod

If you had a good picture of it some one could tell how it was done and with what. Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
