If you go to www.kistlerrods.com there is an awesome split reel seat(baitcaster) right on the front page. Anyone know where I might be able to find it? I wrote kistler and haven't heard anything back from them. Re: Kistler split reel seat

Looks very similar to a Fuji ACS that has been customized. They (Kistler) call that a Fuji Skeleton Split, may be something Fuji is making for them?? It looks a little different than the stock ACS, and , by the way, Kistler charges $50.00 for that split reel seat on their Build Your Own Rods. Edited 1 time(s). I know I'm a bit of a traditionalist & perfectionist and don't always do well with change but,
it appears a lot of the custom rods I see these days are more for show than actual use. (although I know they probably fish well). Some of these rods I wouldn't want being banged around in my rod locker on the boat for a season. To be honest I would never put a split grip like this on any of my rods unless requested. I just don't like the look (my traditionalist side). Much of the "artistic" stuff is too gaudy looking. Note: my kids do accuse me of being a "dinosaur" from time to time. Just my 2 cents. I understand what you are saying, but personailly splits grips are all about performance. Re: Kistler split reel seat

Steve,
In spite of your statement, I think that the performance difference of a split grip compared to a conventional grip is simply the opinion of the user. If the user thinks that there is a performance advantage with one or the other, go with the preference. To say that one has an advantage over the other is simply personal opinion. Lots of reasons to use both. It is up to the user of the rod to make the choice, not the builder. You can talk about weight, balanc, moment arm, weight shift, mass weight, distributed weight, no weight, etc. but in the end - it is still personal opinion. As is the case with many things, I think that for many folks, this is a Phase that rods are currently going through. Rods may stay this way, change back, or go to something new. From a total materials use, split grips save material. Whether they save money on a production is another story. Split grips can alter the performance of a rod. Whether they improve the performance of a rod, is up to the builder as well as many many other factores. Many many rod users would absolutely NEVER have a split grip rod on their boat. Conversely, many many rod users wold absoluten never have a conventional grip on their boat. Personal opinion. Take care Roger Re: Kistler split reel seat
