Need to replace a wire guide on a 30 year old shakspear wonderod.
what kind of thread sealer did they use then, varnish! will using flex coat
lite be all right

Functionally it'll be fine - even better than the original varnish. But it won't look the same. Make sure the customer understands that.

Tom is correct. If your custom wants it to look original try Spar varnish. But you will have the same problem You are using new thread so the thread colors well be differnt.

i would suggest a complete rebuild so that all of the guides look uniform. it is pricier but in the long run it is worth, otherwise, eventually the other guides will have to be replaced as well.

Flex coat with a bit of tint added to it to match the old finish on the other guides could be worth a try.
