Wrapped guides with Gudebrod orange thread over forest green blank (Sage), no CP. Applied epoxy (Diamond 2) and got the expected guide wrap color ... a semi-transparent muted orange that I like on that blank. Then did a 2" butt wrap with same thread, applied epoxy, intending to apply feather inlay and inscription decal on the epoxy surface. But somehow I screwed up my epoxy mix and it did not set up. Not sure what I did wrong, but the epoxy was so runny after an hour that I think I may have not have added the part A to the mix ... distracted I guess. Was able to wipe off the uncured epoxy with alcohol back to thread. But now after a fresh coat of epoxy, the color of the butt wrap turned to a chocolate brown with hardly, if any, orange color ... distinctly different from the guide wraps.
Pretty sure all the alcohol did not fully evaporate before I re-epoxied the butt wraps. Did the alcohol soak screw up the color? Or did the first screwed up epoxy mix soak into the thread and change color? What else might be going on? Looks like I'll be cutting off the butt wrap and start over. Re: Thread color change

It sounds like Your first coat did not penetrate, After cleaning the new coat just penetrated threw. None treated thread will blend with the base color in your case the blank color orange and green will make a brown. Have know idea why your guide color did no change, unless you used 2 differnt spools of thread, one being a NPC and the other regular. now this is just a guess. Good Wraps Bob Re: Thread color change

The Diamond 2 (Envirotex) that you mixed incorrectly seeped into the thread and did not set. So even wiping most of it off did not really remove all of it. That is where the color change problem lies. You have wet resin or hardner in that layer of thread and it will not look the same as the thread where the epoxy cured. Re: Thread color change

Yes,
Clean the blank of the wraps, start over and you will be good to go. Roger Re: Thread color change
