Diamond wrap problem

Tried my first 4 axis diamond wrap yesterday. Everything was going great and looking good until I got to the last 2 passes. Thread was OK at the butt end of the wrap but couldn't make it fit in at the tip end..

The blank tapers very slightly from 6.5mm at the butt end of the wrap to 5.5mm at the tip end. My question is do I just need to do a better job of packing at the tip end or should I be averaging the circumference to lay out my centers.

Thanks in advance.

Larry

Larry,

I have been building fro almost 40 years and still rn into spacing issues on occassion. You may have done everything right but the fact is smaller areas cannot accommodate the same amount of thread passes as a larger area. You just may have to back off a few passes thread or even use a smaller diameter of thread for those final few passes. My email address is finchaser60@yahoo.com if you have any questions at all.

Tight lines,

John

This issue was addressed in Dale's Thread Art Book. You might try compacting and burnishing your threads as you go. When you find that you have all the gaps filled at the narrowest end, try compacting the thick end and moving thread to fill the gaps

I think there may be an article in an upcoming issue of RodMaker addressing this. I had an interesting discussion with a rod maker from the 'left coast' about this same topic.
