Wrapping Micros

Being a 64 year old rookie I try to practice everything before I actually use it on a rod. I was trying to wrap a micro on a Batson RX7 IP842 popping blank and was having a difficult time of it to say the least. I was working on the tip end of the blank (the NY end, if I can do it there I can do it anywhere) I finally got a system that included a thing-a-ma-gig with tie-wraps rubber bands and paper clips (don't ask you don't want to know). When I got up this morning I thought there's got to be a better way so I did a search and found this (see link below) I tried it and low and behold it works. It took me about a minuet and now I'm a certified micro wrapping fool

Yep - it's too bad Bobby doesn't post anymore.

He really was one of the few at the front end of the micro movement and had a wealth of info to share for those willing to listen.

One thing to add to that. Don't pull the guide, I found it better to gently wiggle the guide and it will work its way under the threads. By pulling it is easy to pull too hard and out comes the guide. You have more control by wiggling the guide.

I add a 'wrinkle' to that method by moving the guide backwards/against the direction i am winding so that its held by 3 turns not just one.
Obviously well prepared feet so no scratching of blank or fuzzy making of thread etc.
It just is more prone to stay put that way even if you have to stop and do something else.
But that is how i do my decorative trim wraps too so its a natural way to do things for me, maybe not so much for others.

I just tried it and it was helpful. I am a rookie but have big fingers so add those two together and any wrapping help is great information for me to have.

I've been using the high grade yellow automotive painting masking tape, it's super tackey and even a 1/8" or 3/32" strip of masking tape holds them in place while I wrap. I would try this, but I start my wraps with 2 wraps on the blank and then they start up the foot from there.

Suggestion: working wit the mcro guide, I throw a white (old) sheet on the floor due to the rug in my room. The eyes sometimes pop out and hard to find! This will help most of the time.
