I'm in need of some scrap blank material. I have a few spin rods tip sections to piece together(cheap rods), and another surf casting blank. Is there anywhere I can buy broken blank pieces(haven't been in this long enough any leftover scap)? Will anybody have any at the show? Should I mic the diameter, taper, and length to try to match it as close as possible, then bring those numbers with me Saturday to the Expo? Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

You will need glass blanks for repair work. There will be PLENTY of inexpensive blanks at the show ... not sure how many will be glass. IMO, you won't need measurements - just buy yourself a small assortment ... you can always use them down the road. Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

Mudhole sells "unsanded" blanks for repairs. Not sure of the current price, but they use to be appx. $4.95 or so each. They are different size full length blanks, but are intended for repairs like you mentioned.
Good Luck. ~Jeff~ Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

Flea markets & yard sales are good places to look for usable parts , also if you know your trashman , you can always ask him to save broken or scrapped fishing rods for you . Larry Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

Most of the "pieces" that I have seen for sale are graphite. You want glass to do repair work ... broken graphite blanks are good for test wraps and poking folks. Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

Graphite blank sections also work for extending the butt on large diameter fly blanks (such as fiberglass) to bring the size down to fit smaller reel seat diameters. Walt Natzke Ripon, CA Re: blank scraps or scrap blanks

Yesterday while walking down the back aisle at the expo was a box containing perhaps 50 blanks marked "FREE". I had no way to get them home as my stuff was on its way earlyier in the morning. 4 or 5 other people were going through them and did have a way to get them home obviously. I didn`t stop to look but imagine they were damaged in some way Ohio Rod Builders Canton, Ohio Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
