Guide Size for 4 wt

Excuse the basic question, but I've been on a 3 or 4 year hiatus from rod building. I'm in the process of building a RX7 IF704 for my daughter, and looking at the following guides: 10 (stripper), 3, 1,1,1,1,1,1.

I know that philosophies change in rod building, and new products appear, so any advice on the guide size or suggestions on single foot guides? Mostly concerned about size 1 being the 'best' size.

The 'fly girl' will thank you.

If the size 1's will pass your line and any required connections, then that's what you should go with.

Tim,
Size #1 single foots will pass a good nail knot.
A little snug on loop to loop but definately workable.
If you are concerned try a SF light wire #2 Recoil titanium and you'll end up with a lighter guide in the process.
They are more expensive and tend to "sing", but the performance gain from the weight reduction is very apparent.

I don't understand the concern about the knots as they will be outside all of the guides when casting/flyfishing. Am I missing something here as I am assuming this is a fly rod. TIA

If you're using a loop to loop connection with a shooting head (rare on such light line however) then you have a connection at the shooting and running line. Otherwise, it would be rare than a #1 wouldn't pass any required connection for line to leader.

since the knots will be outside of the guides while casting would it be feasible to utilize 2/0??
