What would be the smallest size running guide I can use on a spinning rod using 12 lb monofiliment Line? I'd like to go with size 6. Larry I once gave up fishing. It was the most terrifying weekend of my life. Re: Guide Sizing

Depends on the knots you entend to run through the guide. Otherwise there should be plenty of room for the line. Re: Guide Sizing

I use size 4 if I can get a matching sized tip in the style guide I want to use. Re: Guide Sizing

2 or 2.5 mm if you are not using leaders Re: Guide Sizing

6 is a good all rounde. I have 4.5s on some spinning rods for Ultralight works. As the lads said, it is down to the knots you use for leader connection (if any). Re: Guide Sizing

Larry, keep in mind a given guide size is the OD of the ring, not the ID. A pac bay minima 4 will have about the same ID as an alconite 6.
If there is any one place where rod building has evolved it is in guide sizes and weight. I build offshore saltwater rods. Used to be I always had underwraps and double foot guides. Now I never do unless above 30 pound class. You will be surprised how much difference it makes. So my advice is minima's in size 4. Russ in Hollywood, FL.
