A friend of mine gave me some old Gudebrod thread. I say it is old because it is on a wooden spool. Can this thread be use reliably? It is #A thread. I do not know the history of this thread but it seems to be in good condition and it seems to break at about the point that some new #A thread breaks. This is not a scientific test, as I just pulled on it until it broke...and it took a pretty good pull. Subjctively then, seems that its breaking point was about the same as new thread. It's fine. You might remove the top layer to get past any dust or discoloration. If you don't notice any mildew, go right ahead and use it.

Depending on what it is you might wish to save it for repairs. Some colors aren't likely to ever be offered again and having what you need for a repair can be a labor saver.
On the other hand it is neat to be able to wrap a rod with something nobody else can offer. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
