Guides and tips question

Hey
I apologize if this has been discussed before but I have found myself puzzled. As some of you might of read in my previous post I am building my first ice rod, this is also my first rod ever. The guides I have chosen are Pac Bay minima sizes 16, 8, and 6. The tip on my rod is 2.5, the tip that matches the guides I have chosen only go to 4.0. After looking at several sponsors websites I am afraid if I go with a 2.5 tip the size of the loop will be bigger then the previous guide. I have a feeling that I am misunderstanding sizes, any help would be greatly appreciated. Jonathan P.S. I would like to say thanks to the gentleman who answered my question on my precious post. Thanks! Re: Guides and tips question

Johnathan,
A simple fix for this is to simply do a double thread wrap on the tip. By doing double thread wrap on the tip, you will have sized the tip up to about a size 4. Simply glue on the size 4 tip and you will be good to go. This is a very simple thing to do for the times that you have a tip that is in between sizes, or simply because you don't happen to have a tip that is small enough for a nice fit on the rod tip. Actually, if the tip is a bit larger than the size 6 guide, it is not a big deal. The larger tip helps to keep the ice that forms on the line from blocking the tip. So, you can use either method and both will work just fine. Roger Re: Guides and tips question

Its actually a good thing that the tip is bigger. As Roger stated, it helps to keep the ice out. Ive built two ice rods and purposely put larger flyrod tips on. It sure is fun catching fish on something that you built yourself! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
