How do i remove permanent marker from a graphite rod; without damage to the finish?
It appears the marks have been on rod for awhile. Thanks Re: permanent marker removal

I'd try alcohol although it's likely the marker has soaked into the finish on the rod blank, maybe denatured alcohol. Tight wraps and lines, Wylie Re: permanent marker removal

Alcohol works sometimes on some brands of marker.
You can step up to Acetone that WILL work, but you have to be more careful with it also, it can take off more than the marker issue. DR Re: permanent marker removal

Duane,
Whenever I remove the factory labeling on pvc pipes that I use now and then to ship rods, I have found that acetone is about the best thing. If I do use this very volatile solvent - I only do it outsie with the wind blowing cross wind. i.e. you want the wind blowing along the cleaning station, so the fumes neither get into your face, or eddy up around you. But it is a very effective cleaner. If you use it on a blank, be sure to try it in a spot that won't be noticed to see how it affects the rod finish. When using a strong solvent like this, keep using a fresh cloth or fresh paper towel. If you don't you can end up wiping the stain onto a part of the object that was clean before you started by using a cloth or towel with marker on it. Roger Re: permanent marker removal

Not sure the applicability, but to remove permanent marker off a dry erase board I color over the marks completely with a dry erase marker. Give it a second, and it's wiped both off every time. Re: permanent marker removal

Also try some Static Guard Spray, you can get it in cans at Wally world or your wife may even have some. We use it everyday at work to remove marks put on metal and fiberglass done with a Sharpie. Re: permanent marker removal

Take a permanent maker like a Sharpie and draw over the marks you want to remove and then immediately wipe it off with your thumb. The wet marker liquifies the dried on marks and it will lift right off and doing this won't harm the finish on your blank.
As to getting the marker off of your thumb, you're on your own! Good luck! Dan Re: permanent marker removal

I used my daughters' hair spray to remove permanent marker many times. Works like a charm............ Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
