ALL hardener will yellow with time but when mixed and applied it won't really be noticeable. It will be fine Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: Yellow hardner, can it be saved?

All hardners yellow as they age, more so with exposure to light. It does not effect their other properties and it is still usable. Re: Yellow hardner, can it be saved?

All epoxy hardeners will turn amber or yellow over time. It's the nature of the beast and will in no way affect the set or cure of the product.
Epoxy hardeners will amber or yellow in the bottle, or on the rod, so buying new, clearer finish makes no difference. Keep in mind that you're also looking through a very thick section of epoxy. As someone here mentioned once - beer appears yellow in the bottle or glass, but spill some out onto the floor and that thinner cross-section will appear clear. ............... Darn waste of beer, though. U40 LS Supreme turns totally orange and it still works fine. I bought a new batch and it was already orange. Re: Yellow hardner, can it be saved?

Thank you for all responses. I did not mention that this is just builders epoxy for handles, grips etc. Kern Davis, Lady Lake Fl. Re: Yellow hardner, can it be saved?

Then it makes even less difference. It will be just as strong as ever.

Kern,
As others have pointed out, the yellow hardner will cure just fine. But the yellow in the hardner is an indication of aged finish. Wouldn't you rather use fresh finish on your rods, so that you at least start with a gin clear finish on your rods? I generally make a point to try to limit my finish purchases to be able to use the finish up within a year. Good luck Roger Re: Yellow hardner, can it be saved?

The only problem with that is, the hardener will still turn yellow after it's on the rod. The component in the hardener that turns yellow will do so in the bottle, or in the cured finish on the rod.
