Hey guys,
I just finished wrapping a rod all in black, and i look back and most of the guides have little fibers sticking out. i havent epoxied over it yet, but i was wondering if i can remove those hairs carefully without screwing the rod up. Thanks. Re: little thread fibers

If you have enough room you can try an electric shaver. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: little thread fibers

Gabe;
Do the lighter trick, very carefully and fast , then put on a thin coat of finish. After the finish has dried , trim off any remaining "nubs" with a single edge razor blade. Now your finish coat will take care it. Some of us have had trouble in the past with Gudebrod Black "A" being fuzzy right off the spool. Haven't had that problem lately, maybe they fixed it. Lately I have been using Pac Bay black "A". It is shinier and blacker than any other black thread I've used, plus no fuzzes. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: little thread fibers

If you flame it do not hold the flame under it as it will cause carbon to get on the threads and possibly repel the finish. Instaed hold the flame next to it, its also harder to overheat it this way. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: little thread fibers

Gabe,
One of the best things that you can own when building rods is an alchol burner. The reason to buy and use an alchol burner with 99% pure alchol is that 99% pure alchol burns with a colorless flame. If the flame has no color, there is no soot to get on the wraps. 1. Buy an alchol burner 2. Go to your nearby home building store to the paint department. Buy a gallon of 99% pure alchol that is used for thinning paint and cleaning. Do not use the 65 or 70% alchol that you commonly find at drug stores. This alchol has much less heat, and burns with a very yellow smoky sooty flame. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
