Ok guys here is my question. I measured the tip of my rod blank and its .235 inches. What size tip top do i need? All the other rods i put together came with the tip tops so i have never had to figure that one out before. Again thanks for your help!

.235 should be a 6mm tip tube size

Tip top tubes are measured in 64ths of an inch. 16/64=.250. I would buy a 16 and 18, just to be sure.

On your next order pick up a tip sizer. They are a couple bucks and indispensable. Keep in mind that the tubes on tips are measured in 64ths of an inch while the rings and just about everything else is in mm's

You should also be able to create a spreadsheet with a combination of mm, inches, 64ths measurements to cover all sizes and as long as you have an instrument to measure the tip diameter your good. Some vendors even offer a small chart that can be taped to a convenient area around you work bench.

Kevin (and all else).... My mistake! .257 is a size 16. I just measured it with digital caliper and checked against a tip sizer.

Kevin,
You'll also want to take your mesurement about an inch from the end, to allow for taper.

Multiply the measured tip size in inches by 64. Round up to the next highest available size.

.235" X 64 = 15.04 rounded to 16

Just out of curiosity, what kind of rod are you building? This seems mighty large for a tip. Are you sure you didn't measure it in mm.
