What do you think of a Calstar BT195 or GF600XL for a guy that fishes off a kayak. He jigs up live bait and catches 10-20 pound stripers, halibut, and smaller rockfish or the occasional ling. He wants a 6' casting rod for 15 pound line with short rear grip and small guides so as to not get tangled up in everything but the kitchen sink that he hangs off the kayak.

I think it would be fine. Rainshadow's rclb70xl is very close in feel to the garfigthers at less than half the price. I have the eight footer and it is perfect for 15-20# range. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: kayak live bait rod

many experienced kayakers like a rod long enough to negotiate fish around each end of their boat. is 6ft long enough? i would inquire about the length just to make sure the client is getting what they really want and need for their application. there are some good live bait rods by batson, seeker, amtak, etc that are sure to work fine. If you change your mind to a 6'6 rod you could cut a Seeker Hercules Inshor eLite from the butt, a number of guys in the NorthEast have been using this as thier Kayak rod and have had nothing but favorable feedback on it Re: kayak live bait rod

I use 7' rods built on Seeker live bait or crank bait models. The CLB for stripers and larger, the CBS (I think that's right) for bass.

I considered the Batson rclb70XL, too. Maybe 6" cut off the butt if the guy will go for a 6'6. We'll see if he wants to spring for the Seeker, too. He can reach around the front with a 6', plus he can reach the top to get to tangles. Re: kayak live bait rod

I fish for Largemouth off of a Hobie Revolution. 6'6" can be a bit of a stretch, and with all the stuff on board, it can get interesting... 7' is my choice. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
