I am going to be building rods and will be using EVA grips and would like to add vinyl/rubber but caps. Will epoxy work for that? I was thinking epoxy would not stick to rubber. can you help me out with this one. Thanks for your help!

Wipe the inside of the cap with alcohol. Then run some medium grit sandpaper around the inside of the cap. Adhere with epoxy. All will be well if you have a nice snug fit with the EVA.

You'll probably also want to sand down the EVA where the butt cap will slide over it to make it a more seamless fit - or look at an EVA style butt cap that abuts the EVA handle. Search MUDHOLE for tapered EVA butt

Good call on getting one that just butts up against the grip!

eva shapes real easy so you can taper the end if needed to fit the cap and look better.

here I did one to fit an aluminum cap [www.rodbuilding.org]

Greetings Kevin,

Think of a need of a fit-up using masking tape as your filler material.
choose masking tape which is just narrow enough so that you have no reveal.

Then with digital caliper measure the I.D.of the Butt Cap.

Next, start wrapping (neatly) the tape on the end of the butt until you have just slightly exceeded the Butt Cap ID.

Mix up enough (a 25cent 'circle' on foil, will do fine) 5 minute epoxy glue.

Using solvent that's handy wipe the contact surfaces, then paint 'on' your glue.

Have wipes handy, as with any grip applications and you've got it.

Good luck,

Bob M
