Tubular rod handle

I am starting to build a rod using an 8" tubular Tennessee handle that I got a couple of years ago. I have previously built a rod with this same tubing. I used two one inch graphite arbors to hold the handle. . I installed one arbor at the end of the blank, and another near the reel seat. The rod has worked well for a couple of years now with no problems
This particular blank is 6' 6" long, but I would like the rod to be slightly longer. 2 or 3 inches would help. I know this will change the action of the rod Has anyone ever installed the tube several inches past the end of the blank? The tube seems pretty strong, and I think it will work. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated Sincerely Bert Nagy Re: Tubular rod handle

Find a piece of scrap blank and put into the butt of the existing blank. prep well. Then an arbor over that. Bill - willierods.com Re: Tubular rod handle

Yes
You can do as Bill suggest and that will work fine. or you could also place an arbor inside the tube at the point where you want to blank to stop for support and all will be well. At the back of the tube to can place an arbor to complete the finished look. (run the blank through the inside arbor) The one caution is that I would make sure the blank and arbor are past (behind) the point where your reel's foot will end up. Re: Tubular rod handle

Extending the tube a couple or three inches beyond the blank butt shouldn't result in any problems. The action of the overall rod will become just a tad bit faster. That's about it.

Bert,
I have done this before, and did as Bill suggested. i.e. extend the blank, before putting the handle on the extended blank. Finish as usual. Roger Re: Tubular rod handle

Thanks for the inouts.
I already have to extend the tube about 3/4" past the butt to accommodate the butt cap. I am going to make it 2" past and see how it works. I will keep the idea of the scrap blank in mind for the next rod. Sincerely Bert Nagy Re: Tubular rod handle

You can tape every thing on with some guides and test cast it to see how it performs ?? Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
