I just bought 4 of the SP-KC50 blanks for halibut rods. Are the blanks really unfinished and ugly looking. THese i got from Mudhole and they say they are Gloss Black so is that smooth gloss back? Also are they solid glass? I hope i did not screw up. I got them for Halibut fishing in Alaska Kevin Gross Many men will spend their whole life wondering if they made a difference. Kevin,
They will work great . A solid glass blank is virtually unbreakable. Finish as usual and you will have an excellent rod for pulling those 200 lb fish off of the bottom of the ocean. Nothing at all wrong with using a solid fiberglass rod for certain types of fishing. This is one of those types where this blank will work well. You don't want the blank to be too long so that you can exert plenty of power for the long pull to the top. Since, the rod will be a relatively shorter rod and will often be used at the rail, the extra weight of the solid blank tends to be not important considering that you are pulling 4X8 pieces of plywood off of the bottom called huge halibet. Take care Roger Re: Did i screw up?

Kevin -- The SP-KC50 blanks are not solid glass. They are hollow. The blanks are finished gloss black. The exterior of the blanks has not been sanded perfectly smooth, so that they will be more durable. There are tiny ridges on the exterior of the blank, but as mentioned a gloss black finish. They are very tough and durable blanks. Bob McKamey bobm@mudhole.com Re: Did i screw up?

Kevin I have built maby 15-20 butt rods on solid blanks. They are very durable and stand up to a lot of abuse and have never had one break on fish. Car doors however can and will break them.
