Tying Thread for quide wrap

Hi. I'm building an ice rod for a buddy. I was wondering that for the tip top guide, to make it more visible to strikes, if I could wrap it with fluorescent orange fly tying thread? I think I have it in 6/0 or 3/0.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,
You can use any thread you want. Beware many fly tying threads are waxed and may create a problem with the type of finish you use.

Can you tell if the thread is waxed if it's not marked as such?

From my experience if it's not marked it's usually waxed.

If you put a drop of water on the spooled thread and it beads up, its waxed. If not, it will usually turn the thread darker until it dries back to its original color.

Pretty much all fly tying thread is waxed. some more than other but all have some wax. Also fly tying thread is flat. Rod thread is round.

If it were me, I would use a bright color of polyester Embroidery thread with silver paint from a paint pen on the blank to keep it all bright and then color preserver.
