Is there a good source of fast or extra fast fly rod boanks that don't cost an arm and a leg? I just build for myself....I don't have a market. I purchased very cheap blanks to learn on. Most are moderate flex. I go looking for fast blanks and they all appear to be over $200! I have not checked every source or sponsor. I went to a couple of places....think I tried to just search internet as well....and was shocked that all I found were like $210, $230...etc. Heck I can't afford those kind of blanks.
any suggestion or enlightenment would be appreciated. tks in advance Jim Re: Economical Fast Action Blanks?

Take a good look at the Rainshadow XF series of fly blanks - these are travel fly blanks and designed as the fastest action blanks that Batson offers. Priced just right and no need to full out any forms just save your receipt for warranty purposes. Look for my ad in the upcoming issue of Rodmaker magazine for the special on all Batson RX8 blanks.

Jim,
Since you're just building for you, I'd contact several of the sponsors and see what they have ON hand. Many times they will give you a "deal" on blanks they've had lying about for a while or are trying to liquidate. Not a thing wrong with the MXH or the Batson, two of my favorites. Where are you located?? The rod builders expo has blanks for half price or less so you can get name brands at deals that you normally could not. Re: Economical Fast Action Blanks?

Another to consider, the new St Croix SC4/2 series. IMO, they are an incredible value. [stcroixrods.com] Re: Economical Fast Action Blanks?

Tim:
You will not see any factory built MHX rods. Any number of other blanks available to rod builders are also available as factory-built rods. To the best of my knowledge MHX blanks are not available as mass produced finished rods, which makes them available only to custom rod builders - assuming the definition of "custom rod builder" is any person who builds his or her own rod.
